emotional relaxing medium-paced

Beautifully written and thoroughly researched this is a gem of a novel. A dual timeline set in Paris during the Nazi occupation and in 2015 it is a wonderfully heartbreaking link of art and fashion, and a rumination on the importance of culture and art to a country.

Lester uses beautiful prose and her descriptions of fashion and art are stunning and full of life. The characters are so real and thoughtfully developed. I found myself wanting to check in on them long after I finished this novel.

I savoured it slowly, as I didn't want to leave this world and the ending was bittersweet and very moving. This is one of the best and most touching novels I have read in a long time and would have to be one of my favourites for the year. 5/5

Another beautifully written book by Natasha Lester. She put a spotlight on another part of WWII I knew little about and I think she did an amazing job weaving fact with fiction. It was an emotional read, but I loved reading every word!

4.5 stars - Natasha Lester has created another beautiful story with heroic characters, an intriguing mystery and superbly researched tributes to the past. Historical fiction readers will adore this brilliant book!

The Riviera House is written so beautifully the reader is seamlessly transported between times and locations. I was drawn to the stories in both timelines & absolutely absorbed by the characters in both. My heart broke at betrayals and tragedies, wept at sublimely joyous moments and romance & broke again at the exquisite ending. @natasha really knows how to take her readers on a rollercoaster ride of emotions!

I loved The Riviera House & think you will too!

Thanks to the publisher for a gifted copy of this book.

Not a typically a book I’d read, this is the joy of book clubs.
This novel starts out in Paris amongst all the beautiful artworks. It covers the terrifying reign of Nazis over France during World War Two, and details how art work was delicately packed, given a special code, and distributed around France to avoid the clutches of the Nazis. This is split across two storylines between two female protagonists. Both showed great resilience, perseverance and strength during difficult times. I did however get frustrated by the lack of independence - they seemed to rely on men in the end. And one storyline was rushed at the end. Focus of this historical fiction novel was great, but I still remain unconvinced of the genre overall.
