I don’t really think it needed to bounce from present and past. The past part was really compelling and would have been better as a stand-alone book.
One of those books that you can hardly wait to find time to read again!

This was a beautiful story about loss, love, betrayal, bravery, and hope!
Once again, I am amazed at Natasha Lester’s writing. Have you ever read a book where you felt like you could actually taste, smell, and feel everything the characters are experiencing? That is how well this book is written! There are two timelines in this book. Which I know from personal experience can become frustrating, but this book moves seamlessly between the two! This is my 3rd book by Natasha Lester and just like with her other books, you can feel the dedication, time, love, and research she has put into her books! That alone can make a book come alive! Happy reading everyone!

Well-written, but devastating. I know The Nightingale is many readers’ favorite in terms of historical fiction set in France in WWII — but I think this one is both a better story and more heart-breaking.

Really nice historical fiction about saving French art during WWII. The first part of the book moved really slow for me but I loved it 100pages in. There are a lot of characters & stories to keep straight.
Thoroughly invested in both timelines. I’d get so wrapped up in one I would forget the other. I did want to shake the current day main characters out of their wallowing. Only reason it’s not rated higher is because lack of originality but it is a formula I love

Remy har förlorat sin make och lilla dotter i en bilolycka och hon befinner sig i sitt hus på den franska rivieran för att jobba med sitt vintageföretag och försöka dämpa sorgen. Hon blir bekant med familjen i huset intill och när de alla är på marknad i staden intill upptäcker hon en katalog i en secondhandaffär. En katalog över de tavlor Göring roffade åt sig under kriget. Och en av bilderna föreställer en tavla hon har på väggen därhemma…

Lester har ännu en gång fått till en suverän roman, byggd på verkligheten, där dåtid och nutid sakta flätas samman. Till en början tänkte jag att det gick lite segt, men snart nog lossnar det och jag kan inte släppa boken förrän den är utläst!
Behövs ännu en roman om andra världskriget? Absolut! Speciellt när man får veta saker man inte kände till. Som hur Mona Lisa klarade kriget och hanteringen av de deporterade (och mördade) familjernas konstverk.
Definitivt läsvärd!
