Total guilty pleasure. If you enjoy the tv series "Merlin," then I think you would also enjoy this book.

11 year old me really thought this was peak and I cannot stand by that opinion but the concept does slay

Ya know what... that twist really got to me... I wasn't expecting it at all and it was pretty nice.. the climax was a lil anti climatic but overall I had a good time reading it.

Overall rating: 4/5

I'm not gonna write much in this review because this was a pretty cute short and sweet read. It was pretty easy and since it was a retelling the magic system was pretty easy to understand. The book and movie are quite different and honestly... I like the book a lot better because at least it made sense.

I liked how chill the book was made. Will (Arthur) was a high school senior who had normal problems. He didn't know what he wanted to do for the rest of his life and was lowkey delt with a shitty family hand considering how much drama was in the original Arthur legend... Lancelot and Guinevere's reincarnations were pretty cool characters and even when the didn't take the major stage you could tell they both loved Will a lot and truly didn't want to see him hurt.

It sucks that there was no Merlin tho... Bro literally helped Arthur but oh well.

Then there's Elaine... I loved how she chose to deviate from her "legend" and instead of being a helpless woman who offed herself after her lover betrayed her, Elaine became brave and outgoing. She went against her fate and decided to fight not just for Arthur but for Will.
I love how she was revealed to be The Lady of the Lake towards the end of the book... I didn't like it as much because I felt bad that the overall message of "fighting against one's fate" was kinda discarded but it was still a pretty cool reveal and I wasn't expecting it... I wish this book was a series as I would've loved to see more legend surrounding The Lady of the Lake revealed and what powers Elaine could've gained by being the reincarnation.

Either way, again, it was a easy read that helped me stay out of a slump. You can always could on YA to give you something short, sweet, and light-hearted!

I really wish Meg Cabot had turned this into a series, it is such an interesting premise and the characters are really enjoyable.

Fun re-read from like the 6th grade I think. Still fun, but wooooow is this book not that great lol.

I loved the book. I was scared because I watched the movie before reading the book, but I went into reading it with a slightly opened mind and ended up loving it. It’s the first book in a while that I haven’t been able to put down and was genuinely excited to read and finish the book.

The book starts every chapter with a verse from a Tennyson poem called The Lady of Shalott and I loved that because I took an English Literature class this semester and we read this poem along with other Arthurian Legend poems written by Tennyson. So, I essentially thought that I didn’t get any knowledge out of taking that class, but apparently I did because I was very excited to read every verse at the beginning of the chapters to see if I remembered them.

This is my first Meg Cabot book. I had planned on reading The Princess Diaries, but have never gotten around to it. But after reading this book I think I might finally do it. The book was well written and well researched. It kept me on my toes and I love the sarcastic nature of Ellie and how she finds a way to make a joke even during something serious. Will was amazing, definitely my favorite character in the book.

I want to read the graphic novel series that was written by Meg Cabot based on this book and I can’t wait to get those. Still debating on if I want the physical copies or if I’ll settle with the Kindle versions though.

REally Really good!!

This book was just as good as I remember I still love all things Arthurian Legend related. I loved all of the characters so much especially Ellie she is a really likable character who comes off as an easy to like character I really loved her growing relationship with Will they just fit so well together from the start of the story. I really liked the plot it started with Ellie being in a new place since her parents are professors with Ellie meeting someone she likes from the start her then going to her first day of school other things happen and the Tale of Arthur Genevieve and Lancelot plays out just in modern day with different results other things happen and we have an happy for now with things being found out. So I really loved this book will read more by this author for sure.

This book was really cute. This is the first Meg Cabot book I've ever read and it was good. I really liked the characters. Recommend this book.

3.78/5
- Holds up from my childhood
- Bit slow in exposition
- Can be confusing without fully understanding the lore
- Would have loved some more development for the side characters
