I enjoyed this YA book a lot and how the story parallels to king Arthur's legend played out. I wish we got more of Will and Elle's happily ever after for a story that was originally intended to be a standlone. The last 30% of the book is where things really got interesting and fast paced.

pretty good. It was made into a movie lol idk i read it a long time ago.
funny lighthearted fast-paced

i loved this book sooooo much! it is really hard to explain and you have to pay close attention or you wont be able to under stand the book

Meg Cabot, you rock.

I was a major Meg Cabot fan in high school, so I wanted to reread this for nostalgia. I had forgotten much of it. It was a nice quick reread, but not earth-shatteringly good.

The kind of light-hearted fun YA that I was in the mood for. You can never go wrong with Meg Cabot.

I loved this the second time even more. 12 years later and I still have a soft spot for an all America boy with a heart of gold somebody put me down lmao. Anyways, I loved how fast paced this was, once you get past the first five or so chapters you just fly through it bc of how interesting the plot is. Sure you can see the ending a mile away, but with this book it doesn’t matter bc the journey there is such a fun read.

The flirting scenes were so fun and gratifying while still fitting the story plot/character development wise and idk, sometimes a girl just wants to read a book about a really hot nice guy falling for someone “unconventional”. Though, they really tried and failed to make Elle “different” than other girls it was giving pick me, but everything else was such a positive experience that I choose to ignore it.

SUCH A COOL BOOK

warning this sort of contains spoilers for the book and film?

this is a rare case, i think, of the film adaptation being better than the source material (the book). i enjoyed it but, i feel like the charm that the film had was really not there.

it was very 2005, not completely a criticism but ellie definitely at times gave 'i'm not like other girls' which did at times get on my nerves.

in the film version it feels much more complex, the plot twists work really well and make for an engaging, female centred 'feminist' story, whereas the book has that element missing because the entire thing is somewhat predictable, and in my opinion too literal.

for a book with the main character being a girl, it still feels like main character is supposed to be will and ellie is some sort of narrator for his story. i did like ellie's story and her involvement in will becoming arthur, however the entire thing that makes the film so enjoyable for me is that it gives you this sense of 'i know exactly what's happening' and then completely changes it up by making ellie (or allie) king arthur, here you practically already know what's going to happen from the get go.

still had some fun reading this it wasn't bad at all, and maybe having watched and loved the film beforehand i came in with a bit of bias, but yeah!
