i love books that run off of other classic stories

I think I tuned out when the instant love occurred. Once the main character said things like, "I'm head over heels in love with him", even though she's had barely any contact with "him". Sometimes I don't mind instant love. I think it depends on my mood and how it's done. Also, great writing makes it easier to process.

It was just okay for me. I like the Princess Diaries books much better(even though they are silly, they're pretty fun reads). I also liked her Airhead series, which was also pretty damn entertaining. I also remember reading All American Girl when I was a teenager and being entertained. This is a bit better than the first Mediator book but not much better.

This one will be making it's way back to a charity shop.

So yeah, I'd recommend the Princess Diaries or Airhead series before this one. But only if you are looking for silly, fun books.

3.5 stars. This is one that I have read before, but before I was on goodreads. It was a fun listen--typical Meg Cabot. I think the whole Arthur storyline set in high school was cleverly done.

picked this up to read on a long plane trip, mostly because i cannot resist anything arthurian and because i still have a soft spot for meg cabot, though i gave up actually reading her books years and years ago. this book is 100% cabot, or what i remember of her - fluffy, fun, forgettable. well, that's ok; i think that's the point. i did enjoy the plot twist towards the end, esp. since it vindicated certain opinions i have about certain arthurian characters. anyway!

I really enjoyed Avalon High. Elaine is a high school junior who moves to the east coast from Minnesota with her parents during the year they are spending on sabbatical. She becomes friends with Will, the most popular boy in the high school (prom king, quarterback, all around nice guy). She also finds out his girlfriend and best friend are fooling around behind his back. His step-brother outs their relationship and she is around to support him as he deals with this (and as their relationship moves beyond friendship).

I definitely saw Lance, Jennifer and Will coming. I was a bit surprised with who Elaine turned out to be. I also liked her continued skepticism and pragmatic approach to the Order of the Bear by the end of the book.

Back in the day, I remember really enjoying Avalon High but I'm not thrilled with it now. Mostly, it's dull, and it takes such a long time for the characters to figure out what's going on. The plot's lacking given that it's supposed to be a play on King Arthur. The characters are pretty flat, so, even though I can appreciate that Jennifer's not a mean girl, I don't actually care about any of these relationship. Worst of all, it seems like the worst in bad diversity (though he could just be white but come on, he could have been Mark or something) that the one villain in the whole thing is Marco.

I've read this book before, but I wanted something quick to pass the evening, and this sufficed nicely. It's definitely very fluffy in the typical Meg Cabot way (which I love, by the way, so that's not an insult in the least), and it seems even less substantial compared to some of the books I've read in the last year. Still, it's hard to find fault with a fun, light read like this. It's cute, and it's King Arthur. What can I say? I'll probably read it yet again sometime.

Side note: The worst part is that I've seen the awful Disney adaptation that completely changed the direction of the plot, and that had me all mixed up about what was going to happen.
(Though I actually kind of wanted Marco to be a good guy. I felt kind of bad for him. *shrug*)

A cute, engaging story.

Remember how the movie ruined the book for me.

"...I definitely recommend reading it! 5 out of 5 stars!! You gotta love creative new twists on classic stories!"
