The ending made me look at the main character with completely different eyes.
Who would you be if you were rejected by the world in all its forms? Starting with your mother and ending with those who only consume your talent...
And who is this Society, condemned in many, many novels? It’s us, who are so understanding and sympathetic when reading, but in life giving their attention and love only to what and who impresses us.

Even though I never saw the musical I pretty much knew everything that happened in this story before I read this book and to be honest in this book nothing new happened.
I still enjoyed it enough, though.
I quite like the French literature from the epoch. As long as you don’t expect anything too progressive and are aware of the what was ok to say back then then you won’t be to annoyed.
I was actually expecting way worse. The characters was pretty good, I actually liked both Raoul and Christine, even though he is a little whiny baby and she is a little ingenues (not to say dumb), but may favourite was Eric, for today's standards he could be an antihero and would end up getting a love interest.
I would actually like to read more of his backstory because it was only referenced at the end.
It was pretty quick and easy read so I would definitely recommend it.

I just couldn't root for any of the characters like, Christine darling, if you don't mind me asking, are you a complete idiot. Jokes aside I'm aware there is more to her decisions and there is a reason for the every character's actions. I also love how this is a very influential and iconic book.
• “you are crying! you are afraid of me! and yet i am not really wicked. love me and you shall see. all i wanted was to be loved for myself.”
• "If I am the phantom, it is because man's hatred has made me so. If I am to be saved it is because your love redeems me."
• “He had a heart that could have held the empire of the world; and, in the end, he had to content himself with a cellar. Ah, yes, we must needs pity the Opera ghost.”

Dark romance kicked really hard with that one. I am kicking my legs, blushing, squeaking!
