What an absolute delight!! I enjoyed reading this book so much!! The prose is excellent and accessible and keeps you absolutely hooked. I had to physically restrain myself from continuing to read because I wanted it to last longer. The climax is wonderfully done in my opinion. Erik's speech at the end is so full of melancholy and love and passion.

The book is beautifully written and delightfully gothic in its elements. It was very interesting to see how it differed from the classic musical. Leroux does an excellent job of getting the reader to reflect on the idea of beauty and love, and while the phantom is often described as monstrous, I was able to still have empathy for him because of the writing. The love is dramatic and full of ups and downs and seeing the relationship between Christine and Raoul evolve was also very satisfying.
