So many twists and turns wow! If you’re looking for a book where every single character is morally grey (leaning towards morally black in some cases), this is the book for you. Every character was fleshed out, with their own motivations and secrets. Very quick fun read!

Wasn’t horrible, wouldn’t read again. It was very slow in the beginning and had to read like 60 pages for something interesting to happen. The book didn’t keep me hooked and wasn’t as good as I was hoping for. I had to force myself to finish it.

A fun, easy thriller with plenty of scandal and fast-paced plot to keep me reading. The US college admissions system was a unique and interesting backdrop for a murder mystery, and while I would have loved an even deeper and darker analysis of the elitism, nepotism, and classism in higher education, the depth of exploration of those themes in this book felt appropriate for the plot and tone. I imagine this would be a topical and entertaining read for any teens navigating college apps, but as someone who did that 10 years ago at a public high school, I felt a little too old and outside the target audience to fully enjoy this book, hence the 3 stars.

A huge thank you to Crown Books for Young Readers & NetGalley for the ARC of this book. It was a page-turner--I read it in a day, while at the beach. In it, five horrifying teens at an elite boarding school sabotage their classmates in order to ensure their spots at the top of the class--and therefore, in the Ivy Leage. But of course people willing to betray acquaintances in big ways are willing to betray friends too. One of the Ivies ends up dead, and another decides to investigate the death. What she finds underscores just how toxic these students and the environment they operate in is.

Donne manages to write a book that is both incredibly creepy and horrifyingly believable. She underscores just how toxic these hypercompetitive environments can be, and shows what happens when that toxicity is taken to an extreme. I really enjoyed this book!
