I've never been a big fan of mysteries, but I had to read this because of the title. I think I read it the year it came out - 1977.

I read this in 1978, don't remember it real well but did like it. Adding to my list to reread.

I think I liked it better in 1978, I found it a slow read the second time.

Jemima Shore, one of Britain's most popular reporters, is asked to investigate the death of a nun at Blessed Eleanor's Convent in Sussex. The victim was a school friend of Jemima's and the heir to a tremendous fortunes and so there is great interest in the case. The first book in a series.

When Jemima Shore was a little girl she was sent to a convent school, even though she was Protestant. Now she is an investigative reporter with a major TV program a la 60 Minutes. She is also having an affair with a married man (I really hope she smartens up in book 2 because this is a really dumb storyline).

One day she gets a call from Mother Superior of her former school because a nun there, Sister Miriam, was an old friend of hers from her school days. Back then she Rosabelle Powerstock, heir to one of the vastest fortunes in England.

Mother Superior wants Jemima to investigate her death and since her boyfriend has cancelled their trip to the continent she does.

I really enjoyed this book and will read more in the series.

Not bad. A bit lacklustre, mystery-wise, and Jemima definitely isn't as intelligent as most of the characters seem to think she is. But well-written and with some decent characters.

Not the same flair or quality of Agatha Christie, but a good read, nonetheless.

A pretty good read with a nice little twist towards the end. The atmosphere and the characters are absolutely Hitchcockian which I also enjoyed quite a lot.
