15th book read while I'm still home because the Covid-19 is still out there.
I love Modern Love and everything about it. I started backwards though - I watched the tv adaptation, listened to the podcast and finally, got to the book.
I was so lost in these stories that I didn't even realize when I got to the last one (which is my favourite one). Everyone needs to read this book because the world needs more love!

a mixture of genuinely sweet and heartwarming essays ("The Race Grows Sweeter Near Its Final Lap", "When Eve and Eve Bit the Apple", "Would My Heart Outrun Its Pursuer?", "You May Want to Marry My Husband", "Just Holding on Through the Curves", "When the Doorman Is Your Main Man"), weirdly toxic/uncomfortable/"um, okay?" essays ("Uh, Honey, That’s Not Your Line", "No? No? No? Let Me Read Between the Lines", "Sleeping with the Guitar Player", "Two Men, Baby on the Way, and Me", "The Third Half of a Couple"), a bunch of other essays that weren't particularly memorable either way, and... an essay that was so disgustingly, egregiously transphobic that I'm actually kind of shocked it got included in a collection about love. I might have given this more stars had that essay not been included, but its presence sours the whole thing.
the first essays I listed are genuinely very sweet, though, so honestly if you've been considering reading this you'd make better use of your time just looking up those and seeing if they're available to read on their own. nothing else in this book was worth it.

This was fantastic. And reading it over a long period of time.... highly recommend. Sometimes you'll find a story you didn't know you needed at just the right time.
Side note, everyone in this column has a very similar voice. I can't place it, but it's very... Times, I guess. I wonder if anyone else experienced this.

A lot of the stories were pretty forgettable, but there were some gems in there. My personal favorites were:
You May Want To Marry My Husband
Just Holding On Through the Curves
When Eve and Eve Bit the Apple
My Husband Is Now My Wife
First I Met My Children, Then My Girlfriend. They’re Related.
When Mr. Reliable Becomes Mr. Needy
Two Decembers: Loss and Redemption
When the Doorman Is Your Main Man
You May Want To Marry My Husband
Just Holding On Through the Curves
When Eve and Eve Bit the Apple
My Husband Is Now My Wife
First I Met My Children, Then My Girlfriend. They’re Related.
