The first book that I have read that seriously considers the scientific evidence for Atlantis. Obviously, there has been multitudes of discoveries and scientific breakthroughs since this book was published that would render parts useless, but it still has a good overall thesis; that is "Did a high functioning civilization exist before recorded time?". Donnelly's answer is "yes" and he does draw many curious facts and correlations together that does seem to appear to support his thesis. Of course, all of this is circumstantial and up for interpretation. But I do find it interesting how many parallels the book has with the show "Ancient Aliens". In fact, if you change the word "Atlantis" in this book for "Alien" you would have the whole premise of the show. Hmmm...
