Shay's always been a character who has fascinated me. To see the story from her perspective added a whole new dimension to Uglies, and makes me anxious to reread the original book. This graphic novel is a must for fans of Tally.

I’ve been enjoying the Uglies series, and it was interesting to read this graphic novel which is about Shay. It runs almost parallel to the events of book 1.

I also liked the Artist’s Sketchbook at the end that describes the process of converting the world of the book into graphic novel form.

Gave up after 6 chapters. On the very first page, I was like "I shouldn't read this." Because actually seeing the Uglies characters kind of sours the fun of imagining how "ugly" (read: normal-looking) the Uglies are. (God help me if they ever make a movie version.)

But, even worse, this book suffers from Graphic Novel Character Art Syndrome, where the characters all kind of look the same and it's hard to tell them apart. So the fact that the Pretties were pretty indistinguishable from the Uglies (and they all, including the Uglies, look uniformly gorgeous) was egregiously ruinous for me. No puedo mas.

This pains me, it really does. I love the original series, I love the world Westerfeld created and I especially enjoyed the character of Shay who, sadly, was more complex and interesting from Tally's point of view.

SIDENOTE: I always pictured Shay black, don't know why but it threw me to see her depicted as white (in fact I picture everyone a lot more....diverse? everyone looked exactly the same I thought that was only supposed to happen AFTER you were made pretty)

BIGGEST issue is with the artwork, I understand the manga style that they were going for but Uglies and Pretties and even Specials all look EXACTLY THE SAME!!! (really everyone looks exactly the same) Since outward appearance has an awful lot to do with this book and the entire point of graphic novels are the artwork you'd think it would be a bit more spectacular and a little less BLAaaa

I learned nothing new, there was no deeper character developement, what is the point of this book other than $$$?

I was pretty excited and was left completely disappointed.

This was like watching the crappy made for tv movie version of the book.

PLEASE DO NOT MAKE ANOTHER ONE!!!!

I didn’t really love reading Uglies from Shay’s perspective here. The “ugly’ crims weren’t especially exciting to me and I didn’t really care to read about her and David’s super short fling. Shay came off as whiny and a bit vindictive sometimes, which I didn’t really enjoy. It was cool in some points, and the illustrations were well done (though not exactly how I pictured a lot of the characters). A fun book for fans of the series, but overall, unnecessary to read.

Pretty nice! I haven't read the novels, so this graphic novel will do just fine. Very interesting protagonist, with a cool story and a nice surprise ending.

I just couldn't justify giving this book a higher rating, because the plot was very slow-moving and predictable, and the characters were flat. And some of it just didn't make sense.

I really liked being able to be a part of this story again without having to reread the whole series! (Minus extras because blah) The art is pretty good, and I’m hyped up to start the next book now!

I expected something different...better said: I expected a more interesting Shay than we already know...this comic seemed to have only the essential information about Shay...no real character depths which, to me, is really weird since Uglies has depicted Shay as someone more complex.
And every character had the same face and skin colour. it may be a Manga but come on...at least try to make it look more realistic in terms of diversity
