It's an alright book, but I don't think readers would understand what was going on unless they had read the original book. The artwork is good, and I'll read the rest as long as my library gets copies.

I read The Uglies Series a few years back and enjoyed it. When I saw Shays Story I picked it up right away. It was a fun quick read and shows Shay before she meets Tally. When she meets the crims and meets David for the first time. Leading up to when she becomes a pretty herself after special circumstances finds her in the smoke. It was a fun read and a story I enjoyed.
It had been awhile since I read the series so it was difficult to jump into this graphic novel. However seeing the world visualized was really great! It made me wish this book series had been made into a movie that much more!
HMM I think I probably would have liked this way more if I'd read it closer to when I read the actual [b:Uglies|24770|Uglies (Uglies, #1)|Scott Westerfeld|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1358962036s/24770.jpg|2895388] books? As is, though, it's been a few years and all I remember are the barebones details of Uglies so this didn't feel like an alternate take on Uglies, it felt like... the same thing? Which, I mean, I really liked the other Uglies books. So that's fine.
I really liked the very end with a few sketches from the artist & notes from Scott Westerfeld about character design and like what it means to be an "Ugly" (aka: normal).

Retcons several key moments from the book that turns David into a right dick. It's not like he was amazing to start with but this makes big changes that don't sit right with me.
It was okay, but it does not compare to the the book. I remember the world of uglies and pretties being magical, and I did not feel that magic here.
I read the Uglies series a few years back and when I saw the GN I had to have it. Well it definitely should have brushed up because I was a little confused.
After I did a quick Google recap to refresh my memory of the novel I started the GN over and I was still confused. Not from the lack of knowledge but from the huge gaps of the story. Relationships formed super quick and died just as fast. Shay’s story probably wasn’t the story that should have been told. Because they tried to incorporate parts of the novel from Talley’s POV but Shay Was kind of a side character in those scenes so they seems pointless.
