I've now read this book multiple times and enjoyed it more each one. The thing is, I'm so over vampires. They're in every movie and in every book and every cultural reference. So cliché and boring. But this book is not about vampires. It's about people and relationships and love and pain and joy and life. It's wild how a book about the bloodsucking undead can be a better character study than some regular human novels. It can be a little overwrought at times, very into the emotional angle. But it was entertaining, the characters were enjoyable and relatable (yes, even the undead ones), the writing was compelling and there was the right amount of detail to make you feel like this world is your world.

When Louis meets Lestat, the latter gives him the gift of eternal life via a vampire’s “kiss.” And thus begins the life of a really dull vampire as relayed to a reporter by Louis hundreds of years after his rebirth. You’ve seen the movie. You know the gist. But, damn, there is so much fluff in this book that could’ve (should’ve) been cut. I planned to finish this in under a month to keep me on pace to read the entire Vampire Chronicles 13-book series in 2022. It took me 2.5 months to read just this one and I officially quit that goal. If I had this much trouble with what is arguably the highest rated book in the series, I don’t know how I’d get thru 12 more.

It's hard to believe that this book was published in 1976. It still feels very fresh, and it's quite possibly, the greatest vampire novel ever written. Anne Rice's writing prowess shines through every page, her wonderful flourishes always welcome. Told from the point of view of a vampire named Louis to an unnamed interviewer, Interview with the Vampire is a beautifully told story of a vampire's entire life, unfolding over the course of about 200 years. It's a brilliantly conceived and written novel that has been rightfully cherished by all for many years, and hopefully it will be just as immortal, if not more so, than its characters.

louis pmo so bad omg like love him (kind of idk he’s a bit problematic), but i feel like he’s so pretentious.

I didn't really like this story. I got bored with it that is why it took me 6 days to read it. It didn't really keep my interest. I am going to give the rest of the series a chance though. Hopefully it will get better.
