Interesting format and overall creative storyline. A couple of major ick factors involved (without spoilers) and some dragging parts that made it less entertaining overall.

really fascinated by how rice explores desire, love, primal urges, what it means to be alive/dead, & how those intersect. was like a little thrown off by how the 'love' between claudia & louis was described but that couldve just been a prose thing? idk. this had about as much homoeroticism as i was anticipating & the prose was hypnotic, incredibly lyrical—sometimes too overwrought for its own good

I wish this would have been written in a third-person narrative, or at least not in a dialogue-based narrative. Seeing ' " ' at the head of each and every paragraph was unbearable; made me gravely wonder if the author never question this as she typed out yet another quotation mark.
Suddenly being thrown back into the 'current' scenes (in which The Boy is interviewing The Vampire) with almost no meaningful proses or backdrops by brutally boring dialogues of the worst interviewer with no depth was also excruciating.

4.5 !!! This was way better than I thought it would be - insanely well written. Stunning & hauntingly existential.
This book has a very slow start and I didn't get through much other than the MC talking about owning slaves. I've read Anne Rice before, I'm willing to give this one more try in 2025
