At times this book read really well and I enjoyed it and then at other times I wasn't enjoying the pace and plot. Overall it was okay, I may try Anne Rice books she wrote on witches someday.

It's like being wrapped up in a warm blanket of Gothic chills. Every time I read IWTV I'm surprised at how awesome it is. And then I let out a satisfying sigh and want to head to New Orleans.

I promise this book could have been just as good if not better without the weird, in your face, constant, pedophilia vibe. Too long for the story told but still generally entertaining.
this is difficult to rate because for the first 2/3 to 3/4, i was bored to tears and hated all the characters and then it finally started to get interesting. like i’ve been familiar w the characters of louis, lestat, claudia, armand, etc for half my life now, yet i just expected so much….more from a version of them that wasn’t condensed into a two hour movie screen. i think by the end, the relationships between the characters did become interesting, but there was just so much left to be desired (i suppose that’s why anne rice ended up writing like 10 more books in this universe). so much of the book was louis hating lestat because according to him, lestat was dull and simple-minded and conformist, and i think it’s very fair to say that louis was being an unreliable narrator, but when louis comes to the realization that he hated lestat for “all the wrong reasons” and that he didn’t feel any hatred for him at all anymore, this is just not explored. like so much was left unsaid that would’ve been better said because it would’ve made the book so much more interesting. if the book finished as unenjoyable as it started, it’d definitely be getting a 2, but nostalgia and personal attachment and the last 100 pages make me raise it to a 3. this isn’t to say i’d never recommend it ig. but like i’d only recommend it in very niche scenarios. it does feel personal, with new orleans being the centerpiece. i think the tv show, from what i’ve seen so far, will expand on a lot of the themes i want but it’ll be cringe in the process so sigh. idk i think if anne rice wrote this ten years later and knew better what she wanted from these characters, it could’ve been much better, much more satisfying. because like i am very curious about lestat and how their story continues but im not super inclined to read the vampire lestat, let alone the rest of the books in the series. so yeah. if you’re from louisiana and grew up watching interview with the vampire and know what loustat is, check this one out
