While the last quarter of the book was packed with plot twists and emotion, it was not enough to offset the disturbing themes and tropes of the rest of the it.

Brutal to get through. Couldn’t stand the main character, he hates everyone and loves everyone. Just so dramatic. Do not recommend.

While I love the movie (and in turn really like the plot), I just can't get with Ann Rice's writing style in this series. I DNF'd Lestat and decided to try this one because I was familiar with the movie but her writing style grates on my nerves. Maybe I will try a non-vampire chronicles book to give her one more chance. But, that's going to be a while.

I've finally finished this one. And yes, I say finally, because there was this awfully slow and boring part of probably 100-150 pages in the middle that made me want to just put the book down and not finish it.

The beginning and the last 100 pages did make it worth reading though and I even thought of giving it four stars.

I watched the movie for the first time when I was maybe 14 years old and I've watched it probably 10 times, or even more. It is one of my absolute favourite movies ever. That's probably why I haven't dared read the book until now. And though it might be blasphemy I think the movie is far better than the book.

Still, Anne Rice, should really be admired for her writing. The language is really poetic, it doesn't feel outdated even though it was written more than 40 years ago, it acknowledges same sex relationships and love as well as platonic and asexual relationships.

Read my three stars as three and a half.

I read this when it first came out. I didn't really care for it enough to read more in the series, but I thought maybe my tastes had changed over the years. Nope. It gets 2 stars just because I've read books I've disliked more.

I hate it! This is the worst book I’ve ever read! The writing is awful, the story is awful, the characters I didn’t like... I usually read books fast, but this one... it took me MONTHS and that’s because I never DNF a book and I was determined to finish it, but I was ready to leave it 50 pages in. Awful.
