I liked this ok, especially early on but not so much as the descriptions of the kidnappings and rapes were revealed. That got creepy. I often had to just put the book down and take a break. Then Claire was almost unbelievable in her love for Paul. I can understand being fooled by someone but this went way too far. Lydia was a believable character. The actions of Helen were somewhat believable as the past was revealed through the book. I do not think that I have ever read a more reprehensible character than Paul Scott.

I went into this book completely blind because I kept seeing it online. It had a lot of hype to live up to and it just didn't do it. I was able to guess the ending before I got to it and that was disappointing.
