Audiobook. This is an objectively good book. Great data and well written. I think I would revisit this more if I had it as a hard copy, I kept getting distracted listening to it in audiobook which made it feel much longer. Made me mad at the world but hey nothing new there.

Very statistics based and can be difficult to get through, but it was an eye opener.

The statistics are saddening. Despite for far women have come, it’s evident there is still so much more to be done.

I was enraged, sad and horrified by the stats.

Easy to read, for a book that basically just throws numbers at you and while that stays true from part one to the afterword, the preface and introduction were rather exhausting. Since the premise is showing how this can be seen all over the world, it felt a bit repetitive at times, reading about how the thing I just read about happening in country A also happens slightly different in country B, but there is no way around that, so you just have to get through it. Don’t expect any possible solutions or broader critique of the system, this is mostly just the numbers and at times why this is bad for the system that causes it in the first place, but that it does well.

This book caught my eye because I had a long conversation with my mom and sister about how women’s pain (especially black women’s) is not taken seriously within healthcare. This was a bummer to learn this permeates pretty much every single facet of society. This book can get a bit dry sometimes with statistics, but I expected it. If you like a more heavily academic book that is still approachable, I recommend this!

Rage-inducing in its interpretation of the data (or lack thereof), but at least I have evidence for my fury now, I guess.
