As you can see from the description, there are a whole lot of ideas going on in this book. The good news is that King leads you gently through each one. This is one reason I love reading independent authors - they can write whatever they want, however they want, without being told they can't. New ideas are seeping into the world because of them. This book will leave an impression on you - guaranteed.

So who would like this? Paranormal fans. Fans of Ransom Riggs's Peculiar Children series who want something a little more mature. If curse words are a deal breaker for you, you will want to choose something else.

I was nervous about starting the Changels series (mostly because of the combined length of all of the books). Completely won over by the initial chapters, I fell into step next to Sam. He's a little different of a character because of his background and abilities. He's also difficult to feel close to as a reader. Keeping the reader at arm's length allows us to be more objective.

Best part: the pace was fantastic. I never got bored, which is saying something!

Yes, there are punctuation and grammar errors. For a person like me, that did detract from the experience of reading the story a bit. It won't bother or even be noticeable by many other readers. Don't let that be a deal breaker because you would miss out on a highly original story.

The only that that really rubbed me the wrong way was Sue's verbal and physical adoration of Sam. As someone who works with 14 year olds, it felt inappropriate at times (although nothing overtly happens and it may have been completely unintentional).

So why the mixed review? Because there are so many different kinds of readers, some things bother one person that don't bother another. If you're looking for something completely unique, open to commit to a longer series, and ready for very interesting content, please give this book a try. It's free right now on Amazon Kindle!

(I was given a complimentary copy of the Kindle edition of this book in exchange for an honest review.)
