Book 3 I think has a good balance of action and character development. Thalia being the main new character introduction. She is just as proud and leader worthy as Percy, but between the two they haven't figured out where they fit. Tension between Percy and Thalia that is comparable to his relationship with Clarisse without as much anger to fully cloud judgement. Through learning more about Thalia, I believe that Percy grows a lot as a person. I liked their interactions and found them often very sweet. Grover is in this one, on the quest this time, and he's still as funny as ever. Still my favorite character. Annabeth's development in book 2 comes to fruition more so in this story. We also have the introduction of a few new gods/goddesses, new monsters, and a few more loveable characters. One I didn't expect at all but in hindsight, should have seen coming. I liked that twist.
The series as a whole is a fun read, particularly when trying to figure out which god, goddess, or other mythical being Rick Riordan has hidden into the everyday common and exactly how. Brings a smile to my face when I recognize a bit from other media, but with his unique, witty twist. This time
