This is my first 5 star rating for the Percy Jackson series and it is well deserved. This book had action right from the start. The book managed to balance character growth, action, comedy, and drama all so well. MANY characters were introduced but the pace of their introduction was well done so it wasn’t overwhelming to learn or remember each character. Riordan did a fantastic job of allowing time to grow each new character as well as growing the main characters and keeping them the central focus. The true power of Percy is being shown, not just through his mythical abilities but through his character and sacrifices. It would have been nice seeing Anabeth interact with Athena but I do enjoy readers got to learn Athena through Percy’s perspective. This book had the most plot twists of all the books so far which kept the book engaging and prevented me from putting it down. Out of all the books, this one is definitely the quotable which I personally love. I enjoy how Riordan maintained the presence of characters who weren’t central to this book (like Tyson and Clarisse) and enjoyed how each character had their own side journey (Grover, Zoe, etc). The deaths that occurred in this book were done well and even though the characters that died were newer characters, I enjoyed how Riordan made their death’s mean something an you got to know them well enough to care that they passed. Thalias decision to join the hunters was surprising but made sense for her character and the story. I’m really excited to see what happens with nico. 5/5 stars. Very excited to see how this story ends.

Oh Nico……

The first two books are cute, but I feel like this one is the beginning of the perfect streak of the next seven (??) books.
