Georgette Heyer

3.7 AVERAGE

I picked this up because LM Bujold talked about reading it. The writing is not rock solid by modern narrative standards--or even not so modern standards. But Heyer creates interesting characters and situations that kept me interested.

Not one of Georgette Heyer's best. The "hero" is a controlling jerk, there is a LOT of talk about and taking of snuff (I know it's historically accurate, still offputting), and there is cock fighting. Plus it's long and there isn't much "romance." Meh.

Dull. The outcome is obvious but it takes way to long to get there. Too much history and not enough romance.

5 well deserved stars. I first heard about Heyer on the Los McMaster Bujold mailing list, and after having finished my first book by her I ask myself what took me so long! ;o))
I've been an Austen fan for a long time, and while Heyer prose sounds more moderns, even though her research and words are spot on!, I was definitely brought into the same atmosphere.
More! More! MORE! I'll be definitely lloking out for more of her books to read

Georgette Heyer is like a bag of Doritos. I can never read just one.

Now that I’ve read all Christie’s Marple and Poirot series, I’ve turned to something mushier. These are 3-4 reads - perfect for airplanes or holding new grandbabies in your arms. Not spectacular literature, but I give them 4 stars as they keep me entertained while in a holding pattern

Fun summer read. There were parts that dragged but overall enjoyable.
