Case Histories by Kate Atkinson

Clearly a divisive book, looking at the reviews on here. It isn't pleasant: dark stuff happens. It isn't straightforward: plots interweave and time lines jump with no warning. There are a lot of women's names to remember. Sometimes a problematic word will crop up (should we be saying "Japs"? I don't think so). Despite all this, I loved the book so much and really enjoyed that each mystery is solved by the end. Unrealistic, perhaps but exciting and great character-driven writing that was a relief from plodding police procedure. I really like Brodie and will read more of his cases!

Another superb book from Ms Atkinson

I was interested in each of the individual cases but didn't connect with the detective. When the writing style was still so drawn out when he was introduced, I lost interest.

Might give it another try in the future but wasn't a fit for what I was looking for at this time.
