I was so excited to read Eight Simple Rules for Dating a Dragon because I absolutely love dragon shifter stories and I couldn’t wait to see how Ms. Sparks would write hers. She definitely did not let me down and it’s safe to say that this is my favorite in the series so far and while that might change with the next book, Eight Simple Rules for Dating a Dragon will without a doubt be one of my top favorites in The Embraced series. It was positively amazing and I wholeheartedly loved it!

I didn’t love Gwennore as much as her sisters before her, but I really did love her. She’s not easy on herself or on Silas and I wasn’t happy with those little doubts she had because Gwennore is a wonderful person worthy of so much. It takes her awhile and it might frustrate you a little, but please stick with her because she is worth it. Gwennore is kind and brave and she has a pure heart.

It wasn’t at all hard to love Silas. He’s sweet and can be so soft and romantic at times. He’s utterly devoted to Gwennore and he never gives up on her. He’s determined and funny and fun. Silas is just silly and playful and was impossible not to fall in love. Silas completely stole my heart and I know he will win you over too.

There are eight simple rules you need to know for when you read this book.
Rule number one: you will get frustrated, so remember to have patience and it’s perfectly alright if you have to mentally punch someone (Gwennore haters) in the face.
Rule number two: this book will make you laugh and smile a lot, so don’t drink or eat while reading and be sure to let out those laughs because holding them in will send them straight to your hips (I read that on a meme once).
Rule number three: the road to this happily-ever-after is a bumpy ride, so be prepared for turbulence and hold on tight.
Rule number four: Silas and Gwennore’s tale is full of thrills and danger and banter, so expect your heart to pound and race.
Rule number five: when it comes time to read this book, try to do it at time when you’re least likely to have distractions demanding your time because once you start this, you aren’t going to want to stop.
Rule number six: if you love curses, dragons, and mystery, then you will no doubt love this book.
Rule number seven: this tale is bursting with so much love and sweet moments that will make you sigh and cause your heart to melt like butter but not literally.
And finally for rule number eight, keep an open mind and heart because the journey with its heartache, doubts, humor, and light is all worth it to arrive at the destination at the end.

Well, it wasn’t easy coming up with those eight simple rules for reading Eight Simple Rules for Dating a Dragon, but it had to be done. And now all you need to know is that you can read it as a standalone, it’s told from Silas and Gwennore’s POV, and they do get their happily-ever-after.

Totally Worth Breaking Rules For!

Like Alice falling through the rabbit hole, as Gwen tries to do a good deed she is whisked away on a magical adventure...one that, unlike Alice, she realizes she doesn't want to return home from. This series just keeps getting more entertaining, leaving me waiting on pins and needles for the next one! Thank You, Ms. Sparks for writing such imaginative tales.

From the brilliant imagination of Kerrelyn Sparks comes a bold new fantasy romance series in which passion and magic collide. Behold the Embraced…

Gwennore has a talent. An Elf able to track down the cause of an illness and heal it, she’s a valuable asset to her people. When the kidnapping of a young girl thrusts Gwennore into the very heart of the realm of the dragons, she discovers not only a place of power and magic, but also a haunted land, plagued by an ancient curse that all but ensures extinction to the royal family. But when she meets the smoldering General Silas Dravenko, they strike a bargain—save the country from its cursed illness, and he will return the kidnapped girl. She’s been raised never to trust a dragon, but never did making a deal with the devil feel so good…

Silas has no way of curing the family he’s loyally served for years. But when a beautiful elf, long considered the enemy of the dragons, comes bursting into his world, Silas is awakened to passion and desire in a way he’s never felt before. But can he trust a sworn enemy to save the very existence he holds dear? And can their love survive those that threaten to tear them apart?

Rating: 4/5 Penguins
Quick Reasons: steamy, sexy romance!; I'm such a sucker for shifters and stomach-flutters; this was a fun, lighthearted, quick read; action-packed, awesome fight scenes; DRAGONS FOR THE WIN!

HUGE thanks to Kerrelyn Sparks, St. Martin's Publishing, and Netgalley for sending a free egalley my way in exchange for an honest review! This in no way altered my read of or opinions on this title.

"What? You intend to come back?"
"Of course." He leaned over her and stroked her cheek. "How could I resist?"
She pushed his hand away. "Don't tempt me."
"To do what? Kiss?"
"No. To use the dagger."

Akin to other shifter romances I've read, this was one super steamy, sexy read! My little Penguin heart pitter-pattered its way through the pages as quickly as I possibly could--mostly because I'm addicted to those pesky little love butterflies. I especially loved the "rules" aspect of this particular read--just when I thought the author had forgotten and let that train slipslide off the track she'd laid, she brought it back to the forefront. There was a sense of, "yeah, things might have just fallen off the tracks a little bit...let me bring you back now" to it that I particularly enjoyed.

On top of that, there was an actual STORY in this--it wasn't all bedroom scenes and "falling into each other's eyes, ripping each other's clothes off." Instead, Kerrelyn Sparks made sure to wrap these characters into a world and a journey that I not only cared about, but found myself craving. Every time I tried to put this book down, I inevitably found myself picking it right back up again!

Rule number eight: There is only one mate for a dragon, and he will love her forever."

This was, without doubt, one of my favorite erotic novels of late--and I read it quite a while back, so that's saying something! I really enjoyed that the story played out so much, and that there was more focus on the heart of the journey than on the character's romantic affairs. I really enjoyed following them through this--and cannot wait to pick up another Kerrelyn Sparks novel in the future (I'll be looking to see if there are more for this series, no worries!) Be careful turning these pages, Penguins--here, there be dragons.

Eight Simple Rules for Dating a dragon starts three years after the last installment. You won’t be lost if you haven’t read the others, but you will get more enjoyment if you read in order.

I had a lot of fun with this novel. The series is amazing and one that keeps surprising me. I’ve been looking forward to Eight Simple Rules for Dating a Dragon for a year. We finally get to visit the realm of the dragons and the people who live in this hidden kingdom.

The Chameleon is back and causing trouble. We get to meet new and interesting characters who teach us to not judge, to listen and to learn from those who have been around. The story is well written and loaded with lots of drama, passion, angst, action, adventure, and dragons.

Silas and Gwennora where great together. Their romance is adorable and I loved their sweet slow burning connection. I enjoyed how the author weaved the eight rules for dating a dragon into the story. It fit, so well how it was done. The author also throughs in a side romance between Silas cousin, Dimitri, and Annika.

We also learn more about Gwen’s true heritage and we see why she feels at home in the land of dragons.

Eight Simple Rules for Dating a Dragon is breathtaking, captivating, and thrilling.

The series blurb on the author's page sums this up well and accurately. "Game of Thrones meets The Princess Bride in this paranormal/fantasy series with romance, humor, action, adventure, more romance, suspense, swordfights, a medieval-type world, heroes who can parkour, lots of laughs, and even more romance."

Lighthearted, book equivalent of a "popcorn movie". First read in the series and though can guess already how the series is set up, am prepared to look to the earlier books for some more lighthearted 'popcorn' reading.

These are alright—very silly, obviously. All of them follow the same plot and it’s getting tired for me. Perhaps don’t read them all back to back as I have done, and it will feel more enjoyable. There’s apparently like, 4 more in the series that I am choosing not to continue onto at this time.

Also, this is so much less risqué than the cover looks. I feel embarrassed having it show up on my TL! If you’re looking for some kind of really erotic fiction, this is not it.

This wasn't my favorite.. It was good but Something about Silas bothered me. Maybe because everything was a joke to him? He was very sarcastic to the point that I had no idea when he was being serious. I don't know but I really didn't like him. And Gwennore wasn't much better. She kept falling all over Silas even when he lied to her. So yeah the characters in this book weren't my favorite.. Now the story itself was really good. I loved the idea behind the cursed barbarians. So that part was good. But the characters kind of brought the whole thing down for me.

After sleeping on it I realized what bothered me so much about Silas. He made everyone think that he and Gwen were lovers. She is a virgin who grew up isolated from the world. He didn't care about her reputation or how uncomfortable it made her to let people think that. So that's why I didn't like him.
