Such a curious story that ultimately didn't really do much for me. I liked the writing and some of the scenes were truly mesmerising to read but as a whole, it wasn't my thing.

Je m'attendais pas à autant kiffé mdr. C'etait trop chelou, des communautés secrètes, des mecs déguisés et tout whouaa

Very good little novella, entertaining to read and written in a simple language.

White people love to be named “Albertine” and “Fridoline”. Can you guess which one is supposed to be the female name? I read all of this in one sitting. Not necessarily because I wanted to, but because I’m going to rewatch Eyes Wide Shut tonight. It’s so interesting how much of that movie is good because of great performances and not really because of a great story. Most of why I enjoyed this novel was because I was replaying the movie in my mind. I really like all the changes that the film adaptation made, specifically with changing the Illuminati orgy password from “Denmark” to “Fidelio”. Also the addition of Christmas imagery was such an inspired choice, especially after knowing that Kubrick only added that with the sole intention of messing with Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman, whose wedding ceremony took place on Christmas Eve. The book doesn’t get meta like the movie does. I think overall this was really good foundation for a story, but it was sorely missing a personal touch, one that was later added in the film adaptation.
