quite a stressful jaunt of a short novel! schnitzler does a great job of blending the realm of possibly-real with the fluidity of truly-dreaming. i thought this would be a lot more explicit given the infamously sexual kubrick adaptation, but most of those scenes are portrayed at a distance, much like a person remembering their sleepy visions.
