This is making me scratch my head for a little bit, probably will watch stuff dissecting it and it’s movie adaptation.

my least favourite Schnitzler, much harder to follow/get into.

I found this book after researching my future trip to Austria in the Lonely Planet. This is a great story but having watched Eyes Wide Shut (one of my favourite films) multiple times, all of the suspense was missing. The film follows the book fairly closely despite being set in a different city and time period. Some of the differences are so minor, I would not have realised them had I not read the page on wikipedia which was a fantastic post-novella experience.

I'm really drawn to this story on account of the mystery surrounding what is actually going on, and who this organisation that Fridolin is tangling with is. The mystery is also frustrating as the reader never finds out - it reminded me in that sense of 1Q84 in which the reader also does not get satisfying answers about the cult but that just makes you more interested.
