always difficult to rate books like these because some essays were more to my liking than others
overall i expected more pop culture? (Parents just don’t understand, was more of what I was expecting and coincidentally my favourite) if that makes sense and most of the essays could have been shorter
I also had some issues with her ‘antinatalist’ chapter: i was really liking it at first but it just stopped so abrubtly and the nuance i was expecting never arrived
It kind of felt like ‘in these movies/shows (and it’s not like this is 40 is a nuanced masterpiece) these parents are having a hard time so everyone will regret having children?
So 2,75 stars for the whole thing

This was a fun and mostly solid read. Harris has a clear voice and feels really relatable. I really appreciated the section that was focused on the "black friend" trope, because I'm shocked when I still see this trope popping up in new media. I didn't know Harris before this, so now I'm really curious to dig more into her other works. My only real critique is that sometimes the book felt like it was repeating topics or circling back to things that didn't need a revisit (ironic, considering the chapter where Harris talks about her frustration with reboots/unnecessary sequels revisiting media that we don't need to revisit).

I really enjoyed these essays, though I suspect some may actually work better in print than in audio?
