Paquin does a LOT in this book. A lot of forms, a lot of syntactic acrobatics, a lot of obscure vocabulary. I tried at first to look up the words I didn't know, realized it was taking way too long, and gave up. I'm not convinced that some of the words weren't made up, but that would be par for the course since Paquin seems most at home when stretching the English language to its breaking point.

I could tell that cummings is a big influence on Paquin's work, maybe even to a fault. I love cummings, but his poetry is so singular and distinct that writing in a similar way can come across as imitation. I love cummings, but I think his most successful poems lie somewhere between extreme language manipulation and language within normal bounds. The same rings true for Paquin.
