I really enjoyed this. The characters backgrounds were dark but I loved how they found ways to heal themselves through their connections with each other. And Biscuit is awesome.

When she was 13, Rhodes’ world shattered when her family were killed in a house fire and she barely escaped with her life. Luckily, she was taken in by her best friend’s mum and found a family that allowed her to heal over the years. Now, Rho tries to focus on the things she’s thankful for and has decided it’s time to renovate her family’s burnt out home and perhaps put some ghosts to rest.
Anson is running from his own demons and has carved out a solitary existence in Sparrow Falls, working as a contractor for his best friend, who is also one of Rho’s brothers. He and Rho clash immediately when they meet at her family home, but it’s not long before she starts slipping past his defences.
I won’t go into too much detail as I don’t want to spoil anything. As mysterious accidents start to take place in Rho’s life, it becomes clear that someone is targeting her. The steady escalation builds a sense of suspense and tension that kept me glued to the pages. I was surprised by the twists and reveals, and I was completely on the wrong path.
There’s an instant attraction between Anson and Rho, but Anson is determined to keep himself shut off from Rho and her attempts at friendship. He has no chance though. I loved his protectiveness of Rho, even when he didn’t want to be involved. And when the two of them finally cave to that chemistry, it was a total smoke show.
They didn’t have a straight forward path to being together, given the circumstances, and their past trauma which they dealt with in very different ways. That gave them a deeper emotional connection though, as they could really understand the other’s pain and grief.
The found family element of this book is a real highlight. The Colson family is made up of a number of blood, adopted and foster siblings and I loved their bond and playful banter. Lolli is the badass, free-spirited grandma we all need and she stole every scene she was in.
The suspense elements were intriguing without overwhelming the romance between Anson and Rho. I’ve already dove straight into the rest of the series, with each book focussing on a different sibling and I’m loving it.

I did not expect it to be that person. I honestly loved how well put together their story was put together. It sucks that they had to go through so much trauma but I understand why they did.

This book and its deep themes was handled gorgeously. It touched dark things but made it not to overwhelming or heavy to enjoy.

This book was not what I was expecting - I was expecting a sweet, quiet, small town romance.
This was so much more. The suspense. The mystery. I was guessing (and got it wrong) from the beginning to the end.
It was still a sweet, small town romance, but it also kept me on my toes. 💜
