When Laurel's daughter Ellie goes missing at 15 years old and never returns, Laurel's life is left in shambles. 10 years go by in a blur, until one day,  Laurel finally decides to get back into the dating pool. And as she gets to know her new boyfriend, she discovers that his daughter looks just like Ellie.

I am fairly new to thrillers, and this was a really interesting one! I didn't see most of the plot twists coming, and the first was a huge shock! I listened to this book on audio, and really enjoyed it.

My reason for a little bit of a lower rating has to do with Laurel being a pretty unlikeable character. I know that her being that way was to forward the story, but I truly found her insufferable 😅 and partly because of that, the ending felt a bit rushed and unfinished.

Overall though, I was fully enthralled by this book, and can't wait to dive into more thrillers soon.

Average mystery. I was able to predict most if not all of the plot twists. I didn’t expect such a strong family drama element, and I actually liked it because it  gave all the characters good dimension and the ending was actually hopeful because of it.
I don’t find it believable that Floyd had no idea about Ellie and Poppy. He was so sinister and strange from the beginning, so to find out that he was just dumb was annoying.

This was a great read that told a chilling story. I did predict the ending, but I thought it was still a great book. I was sad for Elle the entire book and found myself gasping when I found out all of the things that happened to her.

Hard to finish. I'm not sure if the book intended to be surprising or shocking or with having "twists" but it's all plainly laid out. Slow pace. Sad inclusions of diet culture and toxic beauty stands.

Low four star

Likes: love the pacing and love that it's set in Britain. It reads like a great bbc mystery. The twists were good but predictable. The ending was good!

Dislikes: the main character who you're supposed to love, I didn't. She was supposed to be the victim but I didn't think she was. The antagonist was flat.
