I didn’t read the back when I started this and I should have because boy was that a heavy novel, definitely should not have been reading it at 14 but whatever. Very heavy, very true crime, honestly felt like a real case.

This was… okay. It was interesting enough for me to read it in a few days, but not enough that I wanted to stay awake to read more each night. 

The plot was a bit unbelievable, and entirely predictable - you know who has done what very early on in the book, and just need to keep reading to figure out exactly how. It also felt tense throughout without any big twist or climax, and finished feeling anticlimactic. The plot was a mixed pace, and sometimes lagged on with unnecessary repetition and explanations. 

All-in-all, I would not recommend to a fan of thrillers/whodunnits. I would cautiously recommend it to someone dipping their toes into the genre, or looking for a predictable and quick (but dark!) read.

I really enjoyed this book, it was well written with deep insights into what was going on in the heads of the different characters at various points throughout the story. There was just enough detail without it being too much and I was kept interested until the end. The story depicted really well how the main character developed as a person through all that she had suffered. All the loose ends were neatly tied up at the end of the story and something good came out of something bad. However, whilst the story was interesting, there weren't any exciting aspects to the story which stand out.

This is the first book I've read by the author Lisa Jewell, and I would like to explore other books she's written.  Highly recommended.

Overall really liked it. Was a very fast and enjoyable read. The chapters from Noelle were so uncomfortable to read. I also found Laurel to be really slow in putting pieces together which was frustrating but kept me reading. I did like that Laurel was flawed. Reminded me a bit of the lovely bones.

I flew through this, it was impossible to put down. I saw too much hype around it though, and I guessed the major twist, so it lost a star due to that.

A great thriller with excellent characters. Highly entertaining, and I recommend it if you like the genre.

Though I enjoyed the last part of the book, overall it was too far-fetched and predictable. I’ve seen in many reviews that readers “figured it out” less than halfway through the book and the same happened for me, after that it was mainly the curiosity of HOW that kept me going. The writing was great and the author knows how to write compelling characters, the plot just wasn’t there.
