A little long winded but I love the development and backstory this brings to Kanan’s character!
I was passably entertained by this book. The plot wasn't terribly exciting, though the narrative was well developed. Miller set up a strong setting for the events to unfold, and he delivered a satisfactory relationship between Kanan and Hera, but it was just that. Not amazing, just alright. I mostly stuck with it out of loyalty to the Rebels TV Show and my love of those two characters, but I probably wouldn't read it again.

This book read like an episode of Rebels, and I loved it. At first I thought the Vidian was too much like Thrawn, but then I realized he was just insane. My only complaint about this book: WHERE WAS CHOPPER??
Also I would like this to be the first of a trilogy of books that continue to develop Hera and Kanan’s love story and show how they meet Sabine and Zeb.
Also, two thoughts completely unrelated to the story, but in my head:
1. Sloane is Carol Freeman from Star Trek: Lower Decks
2. Skelly is Elfo from Disenchantment

This book was a lot of fun to read. It serves as a prequel to Rebels and tells the story of how Kanan and Hera met. I'm really growing to love this cast of characters and would love to read more stories featuring the Rebels' crew. I guess I'm going to have to pick up Kanan's comic next.
I’m a rebel’s fan first. Hera is one of my favorite characters, which is what drew me to this book. However, it was a disappointment. My beloved characters did not feel like themselves. Kanan is written as a generic Han Solo, who’s infatuated with the hot twilek. Hera’s character also falls flat (also where’s chopper?). Hera only (maybe) starts to have feelings in the last 20 pages where she finds out that kanan is a Jedi, and then it’s summed up that Hera loves Jedi because they saved her family during the clone wars?
The adventure fell flat as well. Just a boring book that I powered through HOPING to get something from my favorite characters, this book doesn’t add anything to the Star Wars universe sadly.
