A wonderfull song turned into a wonderfull book. Can’t wait to use it in my classroom.

I don't think this really works as a kids book. It's nice to see the lyrics illustrated, but that's about it.

Jean Jullien (@jean_jullien) is an ideal choice for this picture book adaptation of John Lennon's song "Imagine." I just don't know if the song, rich in abstract ideas but less so in imagery, quite works as a book. It was certainly hard to read it without singing it, and maybe brave readers will. Includes a foreword from Yoko Ono and an Afterword from Amnesty International.

So this book is word-for-word the lyrics to Imagine by John Lennon. The images are mainly of a dove; pretty simplistic. I read it with a kid then we listened to the song and followed along. I really enjoyed this book in that way!

Like the lyrics can be a bit challenging and the illustrations aren’t very captivating. BUT making it a shared experience of a kid with an adult who loves the song was great!

First: I loathe the song "Imagine." When I honestly imagine what Lennon wants, it makes me shudder, because it's a cold, passionless world.

So I was already biased against the book going into it - and the illustrations didn't quite help. There's nothing really wrong with them, they just seem a little too childish for what the song really wants to convey. But its heart is in the right place.

La chanson Imagine de John Lennon, traduite en français avec illustrations pour former un album jeunesse. Mignon comme album.
Une chanson transformée en poésie. Un poème qui parle de tolérance et de paix. Un beau message pour les enfants.

I always love Jean Jullien's illustrations.
