Read it because it's been on my shelf forever, plus I could easily get the audiobook. I feel a bit ambivalent.

Couldn’t get into this as much as I wanted to. I felt like it was hard to picture everything which hindered my immersion into the world and I wasn’t super compelled by the characters or conflict.

I enjoyed every minute of this book. Its plot is gripping and its plentiful twists and turns makes you want to keep turning the page. All of the characters are fleshed-out and real. The tangled, difficult relationship between Crier and Ayla is tense and beautiful. You find yourself rooting for each of the girls and empathising with the battle they face with their feelings for one another: each yearning to be closer, yet both of them aware of all the reasons they can’t be. The world-building is first class: an incredible and believable fantasy world that has some important and relevant themes in our current age of AI. It is also very well written, with great descriptions and believable dialogue. Overall, a brilliant novel and modern classic that I enjoyed immensely. (I’m going to jump straight into the sequel!) 5/5 stars.

Never really got super into it, the world and characters felt kind of empty. It wasn't bad, and there were good parts to it, but just never quite sunk into it
