A beautiful story about finding connection.

This was a very quick read. I loved the message and it is one that resonates with me - I can't communicate with my Thai grandparents without an interpreter. I enjoyed seeing the drawings of the traditional Thai style dragon and warrior. A great book to have on the shelf if you have small children who cannot communicate with their grandparents or other relatives with a common spoken language.

Love love love the mix of artwork here with traditional black and white from the grandfather and colorful modern more graphic-style art from the grandson. This is a sweet story about crossing generational and cultural gaps, and finding common ground.

A book of few words - and that's the point. It's about a grandchild and grandfather navigating cultural and language divides. They succeed in connecting through a shared hobby! An excellent lesson.

Extremely beautiful in message and art style as a child and grandfather both from different worlds, cultures, and eras are separated metaphorically, however manage to find a way, through art, to bridge the gap. The child's cartoon-colours fusing with the elder's ink brush strokes creating a whole new world which words cannot express. Was very much in awe and again no words can describe it.

This book is beautiful! The illustrations are amazing and the author's and the illustrator's story behind it is amazing. We used this as part of our friendship unit. We can be friends with people that are not our own age!

I love, love, love the artwork of Dan Santat and this book of love between a Vietnamese grandfather and a grandson is heart-warming. It reminds people that even with a language barrier, there are still commonalities between humans.

Gorgeous illustrations are paired with a simple yet meaningful story to create a visual delight and heartwarming experience.
