I think this is Rooney's best book yet. It is on the same theme as her other books but it feels more mature and developed, the writing only getting better. I had real trouble liking any character but still found the book enjoyable and well worth the read. It is very heavy at times and perhaps more so when you have siblings, but in the end also beautiful in a way. I find it real ironic Rooney named this one Intermezzo.

I know this is li-chi-cha and, as such, I should be impressed but the Yoda-lish internal dialogue of Peter just made me cross and not putting quotation marks doesn't make it modern and experimental, it just makes it hard to read. Not a fan of "muted prose".

This book is about sad, emotionally stunted people going through quite hard times. The last 10% was really powerful but overall this was quite a tedious bummer to get through. Beautiful bits of writing at times, but found Peter hard to root for amidst his many, many bad decisions.

This book is wayyy to long for what it is. The story is slow and honestly not interesting enough for how long it is, it felt a bit like a chore to finish. I also found most of the characters pretty unlikeable both Peter and Ivan are pretty sexist and awful in their own ways. There were a few parts I found more interesting, but this book could be 200 pages shorter.

SALLY ROONEY WTFFFFFFF this is my first book of hers and Good God. the 1st chapter was written so not understandably, that for a moment i thought i was dumb, BUT afterwards it gets understandable (hence the -0.5 stars, from the initial 5). the characters are written so well and they're so complex i truly couldnt figure out my moral stance on them throughout the entire book. overall it was such a surprisingly good book, i'd revisit it again in the future
