The Book That Broke the World took quite a turn from the first book in the trilogy and this change seems to split the reception of book 2. I personally enjoyed it more than the first. While The Book That Broke the World was really creative and well written, it was also immensely confusing and I actually spend more than 30 minutes reading a recap to go into book 2. While book 2 was less character focused and less focused on the exploration of the library, we explore the world, its history and inhabitants in this installment. I liked the new POVs (and characters) and insights we got and had fun trying to wrap my head around the events of the world (and the infamous book). I also have no idea how the story will end and am very curious to read the conclusion.
No 5 stars, there was one element which I didn’t like and found unnecessary and while I loved Livira’s and Elvar’s story in book 1, here I found myself looking forward to the other POVs. I don’t fully buy their love story.
4 stars, excited to read book 3 soon.

4.5 stars!! What a crazy second book of this trilogy! Taking notes from the first book, I greatly enjoyed reading about some new characters and the interactions between previously established ones while trying to figure out how the stories intertwined. The various love stories tangled around the politics of the library was really fun.

I am very intrigued about the Skeer species in this book and hope we get some questions answered about them in book 3.

Also did not expect cannibalism to be such a large part of this book????? Genuinely shook me and gave me a good glimpse into the grim-dark fantasy Lawrence is known for. A little excited and scared for my eventual journey into Prince of Thorns
