I can't even remember how this book ended up on my TBR, but I'm so glad I took a chance on it. It was a wonderful book to end 2023 with, as - similarly to Sadie - I didn't have the best year and wished numerous times for a redo.

I loved Sadie and her journey of self-discovery. The supporting cast (her Higher Grounds family) was wonderful and I loved her relationship with her brother. Jacob was just my type too, the steadfast and kind nerd who had carried a torch for Sadie since they were kids.

You can't go back to change the past. You can't pick and choose the things that happen to you. You can only go forward, open your heart to people and hope that all will be well in the end.

I gobbled up this holiday time-loop romance on a sick day without knowing exactly what I'd be diving into. It was the best distraction, and I'm really glad I randomly picked it when I was looking for something new to read. It didn't get rid of my stomach bug, but it did make a bad day far less miserable.

Thank you to NetGalley and Grand Central Publishing for this advanced reader copy. The opinions expressed are mine alone.

The Second Chance Year is an absolute 5 star read. It’s got so many things going for it. Sadie, the main character, is someone that so many people could relate to. Whether you’re a woman dealing with sexism and/or sexual harassment or a person dealing with any other kind of “ism”. Or, someone wishing they could go back and change just the past because they think if only this was different everything would be perfect. Or maybe you’re trying to figure out what your dreams are and accept that not everyone may understand or even approve. The Second Chance Year by Melissa Wisener is all about learning to be true to yourself and living for the life you have instead of living in the past.
