The Artemis Fowl series was one of my favorites, but I found that overtime the novels became less and less well written, starting with the amazing first book with its well-done plot and meticulously written main characters. From there, it didn't really hold its quality as a series, but I still loved this book because of how it made me laugh all night. The uses of Artemis' condition during the novel were also clever, as well as several other elements. I enjoyed the main villain, but I found it to be confusing how his actions related to his motivations. Overall, though, the narrator gives Artemis a whole new, hilarious personality with quirks one would never expect from Artemis Fowl, creating a contrast to the other books. Although plot was not as much of a strong point in this novel as in the first one, the comedy helped keep it at a higher rating in my opinion.

★ I enjoyed Artemis Fowl and the Atlantis Complex a little more than Artemis Fowl and the Time Paradox.
★ However, I feel like Colfer wrote Artemis Fowl and the Atlantis Complex just for the sake of writing another Artemis Fowl book.
★ There are some interesting ideas in Artemis Fowl and the Atlantis Complex, but the execution of these ideas are lackluster.
★ Artemis Fowl is suffering from the Atlantis Complex, a fairy illness that has symptoms of paranoia, suspicion, multiple personality disorder and OCD. It's terrible to witness Artemis realise what's happening to him and he can't do anything about it. However, towards the end, his mental state is forgotten.
★ I miss the clever, patronising criminal genius.
★ Orion is too much and it's hilarious.
★ I love the secondary characters - Holly, Butler, Foaly and Mulch - but they don't seem like themselves.
★ I'm glad that Juliet's back.
★ The villain is not so black-and-white, but the way things end is anticlimactic.
SpoilerI can't believe that Turnball would give up so easily after all that he's done.

★ There are loose plot points and things that weren't mentioned in previous Artemis Fowl books came out of nowhere such as the dark fairy magic and runes.
★ The Artemis Fowl series has lost its fairy magic.

The hidden world's Colfer has built strain at this stage. The character feel like parodies of themselves and Artemis doesn't feel like the smartest man in the room anymore.

Not my favorite Artemis Fowl, mostly because I get a little tired of the constant parade of "Humans are evil! And they're destroying the environment." But still, it was a lot of fun, especially the parts with Orion, and I'm always happy to see Juliet. I'll be anxious to read the next book whenever it comes out.

This was the best Artemis Fowl book yet! I can NOT wait for the next one, Eoin Colfer! :)

As always I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I am so pumped and sad to get to the last book. This was a great addition to the series!

aawwww yeaahhh all that traumatic shit finally caught up with him and now he's counting and there is an Alter Named Orion confessing his love to the woman Artemis trusts more than anyone and has lied to more times than he can count. Good shit.

lets start off by saying i l o v e this volume, Orion is great and i honestly wish there was more of him in the series. ALSO Roots brother being in love with the human was really sweet until he mesemered her to give up on her dreams. BUT i loved the fact that when she was lucid she made the choice she made and he followed her without a hint of an argument.

honestly this is the worst book so far of the series. weirdly worse than the other ones. the usually funny banter came off as annoying, and the villain was rather two dimensional. the emotional response to having OCD impulses- knowing they’re irrational but being unable to stop following them without extreme distress, is shockingly pretty accurate. Obviously this is not a sensitive depiction of mental illness, or DID, but you did not come to this book for that. what you should be asking is, is it fun? and i would say- half and half. i can’t lie, i do like a two people in one body plotline, but orion is so fucking ANNOYING i was like GET MY BOY ARTEMIS BACK IN HERE. he does redeem himself in the end, but still. the last 20 pages of this book are fire which gave it an extra 0.25 stars, but honestly i was disappointed with this one
