I just…feel like it didn’t work. You could easily see the feminist story this book was trying to tell and you could easily see the Arthurian legend it was referencing, but their relationship to one another did not make either story stronger. The feminist elements of KA were taken pretty far outside the context of the original story and so it felt more like a feminist medieval story with KA makeup. But then, it seemed like the book was doing plot gymnastics in order to make that idea of empowering women in this time period fit within KA. It flattened some of the characters and overall made for a very “mid” reading experience.

I thought the tension was written well, but it was hard to be invested in plot points or character relationships because of the lack of effective integration of the story elements imo. It was a shame, because my favorite moments in the series were at the beginning of this book, and it surrounded character banter and personalities that felt incongruous with how they acted in the rest of the series. I wish we had started there and then built and grew on that, pretty vivid, characterization for Guinevere and co.

Other miscellaneous notes I took while reading:

Wait so we are FINALLY on the run with a sorceress and some tribal people and we’re spending time just inside the heads of the boring side characters? Guinevere is warging into their heads and just listening to them judge table spreads and manners?!

Tension and pacing are good though.

Shit, this girl banter over drugged wine is ace.

Damn am I enjoying this one? I kind of love this “duel for the girl” in the dream world that’s turning into a footwork lesson.

I’m sorry, Guinevere being funny and having a Donkey moment in the woods?! This is what the last 2 books coulda been! Why make us wait?!

As suspected, Mordred is a Shadow Daddy. Y’know, without the shadows.

Why does the future hinge on a girl choosing who she is gonna date again? Please 😂

Who are you?

This is something most people struggle with internally, discovering who they are. For Guinevere this question goes much deeper than defining morals and character. Figuring out who she is may be the only thing that will save Camelot.

The conclusion to the Camelot Series was full of adventure and romance. The series still hung on to those three love interests for Guinevere and we take several ups and downs before the final pages. I was definitely disappointed in the love conclusion or it would have been a 5 star read for me.

The plot took me exactly where I expect a series to take me; through confusion, pain, heartache, hope, love, excitement, suspense and anxiety. I embraced each like a mother cradling a child, for each had purpose and weight and sitting with the emotions allowed me to sit with myself. This third installment urges a self reflection that I couldn't help but take on.

I quite enjoyed being in Camelot and along for the journey of some wonderful characters.

Thank you to Delacorte Press, Kiersten White and NetGalley for the advanced review copy.

Reading this book was so much fun! It was an amazing ending to a series, I'll admit I really enjoyed it. It was a little bit weaker than the previous two books but still worth it. I loved Guinevere in this book and the plot twist with Lancelot was unexpected but what could I expect when it was literally Lancelot and Guinevere. I wish the author would at least foreshadow their relationship earlier in the series. Otherwise, at times it might have been a little boring and it took me a whole week to read it because I was busy with school. At least I got sick and could read the last fifty pages in one sitting while lying in my bed.

Willing to up the review to four stars if there will be another book in which Lancelot and Guinevere find their happy ending
