I skipped through this quite a bit. While not my favorite book, it was interesting historically. I accidentally read a group of books together: Flames of Rome, Mark of the Lion Trilogy, How the Irish Saved Civilization, and Trinity and basically had an ongoing historical timeline of this era. That was the main thing that made it interesting.

One of my all time best reads. I read the first 2 books of the trilogy. Apparently the last one isn't as good.

One of the best series of books I've ever read. I resisted reading these for many years because I do not care for the time period...what a mistake!!

You have to stick with it in the beginning, but the story is so worth it.

I loved this trilogy! I have reread this trilogy 4 times and still find myself flying through the pages emotionally invested in the characters. Love. Heartbreak. Hope.

These books. OMG these books. As far as christian lit books go, these are way way up there. They're historical. They have romance, which admittedly drove me a bit nuts because as pacing goes it seemed to take forever. But those also make the best books =)

and it made me cry.

two big thumbs up for books that you need to read. like now.

Love these books. These have helped fortify my faith. Sometimes the writing is predictable and slightly trite, but it's one of the few books from the Christian genre that I've been able to swallow.

Page turner.

Great historical fiction about gladiotors, ancient Germany...made me appreciate the 21st century.

I am so touched by these stories!
Francine Rivers has a beautiful God-given gift of sharing God's amazing love through these books.
It has created in my heart a desire to dig deeper into God's Word. I am pleased to see how she has woven Scripture into so much of these books. It's not just stuck in at strange times, but entwined into the flow and life of the characters.
I have enjoyed reading many of her other books too. If you haven't read any of her books I highly recommend you do!

One of my all-time favourites by my all-time favourite author!

Christian historical fiction series with wonderfully-written characters and insights into the early church and the time period immediately following the lives of Jesus and the apostles.

Hadassah is a Jewish Christian slave girl serving the Valerian family, struggling with her desire to share her faith and her fear of persecution in a world where every belief system is tolerated except that which refuses to worship the Roman emperor as a god. Her gentle spirit and willingness to serve set her apart from the other slaves in the household, and the family soon takes notice as each of their lives are eventually transformed by the Presence she carries with her.

Atretes is a German warrior, captured by Roman soldiers and taken from his home to fight in the arena for the entertainment of the Roman mob. His path and those of the other characters meet at crucial intersections before diverging at the end of the first book.

A Voice in the Wind tells the first half of the story, as seeds are planted and each life is touched by those surrounding them.

An Echo in the Darkness follows each member of the Valerian family as Hadassah’s influence continues to take hold of their hearts in the aftermath of tragedy.

As Sure as the Dawn takes Atretes on a quest to return to his homeland and reclaim the life that was taken from him, but not in the way he expects.

This is one (3) that I recommend to anyone and everyone! They are truly amazing books, the characters are relatable and the historical details are well-integrated and immersive. If you’re a fan of character development, these books are pure gold! A reminder that anyone can be an instrument in spreading the gospel, and absolutely no one is beyond the reach of Christ’s love and redemption!
