Cringe. The mc's were also immature, I'm amazed I finished it.

Review: Forever After All by Catharina Maura

I had mixed feelings about Forever After All. The story starts strong with a great setting and an interesting marriage-of-convenience trope. I loved the world-building and how you could see Elena and Alexander slowly falling for each other. But as much as I enjoyed their dynamic, I found the constant repetition of lines like “you’re mine” and “I own you” a bit over the top. It made the possessive side of Alexander feel more annoying than endearing at times.

What frustrated me most was Alexander’s inability to admit he loved Elena. He wants to give her the world, can’t stand seeing her sad, and supports her unconditionally—but then he insists he can’t love her? Like, come on, Alexander, that’s literally what love is!

That said, the plot really hooked me as it went on, especially when Elena’s mother came out of her coma after eight years. I loved how Alexander stood by her and helped her reclaim everything she’d lost. Those moments added emotional depth to the story and made me more invested in their journey.

Overall, I didn’t love the book at first, but it grew on me as the story progressed. If you enjoy emotional romances with a touch of drama and a satisfying ending, you’ll probably enjoy this one.

Diverse cast of characters: No

Why did the booktok girlies hype up this book so much? The dialogue is so cringe

A quick paced, not so well written, but enthralling characters with a feel good ending (which is what this author is apparently known for). It was free on Amazon Prime, which was the perfect price.

Excellent

This is my first book by this author. Wow. Just wow.

Lots of angst. I really thought there wouldn't be a happily ever after. And I was so upset. But even being upset, I still wanted to finish.

Elena is true class. Not ever really losing her cool. But also a pushover and I didn't care much for that part.

The cruelty of her family. Sometimes I think these books are fanciful and I roll my eyes at the unbelievability. Until I think about real life that hits the news. And yep. Murdaugh immediately comes to mind. How are people so heartless to their own family?

Watching Alexander love Elena without realizing he loved her was so well done. Elena's backbone with him was impressive.

And then the extra scene through the newsletter sign up. Oh. My. God! The cutest!!!

WHAT I LIKED:
This book was so incredibly original. Yes she basically sold herself to someone rich and powerful; but there is 100% genuine reason for it. Which only makes her the best character. She is so selfless that even when you start to think that she married him for the money it all falls back on why she needed the money in the first place. While Alec is cruel and vengeful, Elena is the sweetest and shyest person out there. The fact that she does actually get the big bad alpha to fall for her and then work to keep her made this story awesome.

WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE:
There are parts in this book that are just immature and annoying. Like the way Elena's family treats her with such child-like behavior, it's tactless. It is almost as if the author wasn't sure what else to do to make them horrible people. I will admit that parts of it worked out in her favor, such as the handbag store scene. But for the most part I found situations with her family irritating and not written in a way that helped the story instead of hindered it.

OVERALL / RECOMMEDATIONS:
I did enjoy this book and how strong both of the characters are even though they had horrible pasts and family drama to deal with. Strong characters that come out on top are always a favorite and inspirational read. I recommend this to anyone who enjoys a goof romance story.

Alexander & Elena: What a Sweet Couple!

Alexander Kennedy was a man scorned. Between finding out his fiancee cheated on him and his father's adulterous scandals made public, he no longer believes in love. So imagine his disdain when he finds out the only way to acquire the CEO position after his grandfather's retirement is to do the last thing he wants; to marry. So, when his old childhood friend (also the sister to his nemesis, the man who stole is fiancée from him) finds herself in a financial predicament, he comes up with the perfect plan, He will solve her financial problem if she marries him. Sounds simple but the thing about the Kennedy family is, no matter the situation or circumstances, divorce is out of the question. The Kennedy's marry for life. Given his mother's unhappy situation, Alexander isn't seeking love and whomever he marries will have to deal with a life without love, from him at least.

At first, Alexander (Alec) came off as sweetheart, but it seems the minute he found out the true identity of Elena, he turned into this jerk! It seemed like he enjoyed throwing the fact that she needs him and his money. He seemed to take every opportunity to throw this up in her face. She was a kind soul and it seemed like he admired her for it but was annoyed by it. I'm glad that as the story went on, he mellowed out and became to the man we were first introduced to in at his first introduction.

This was a very sweet romance and it was a nice change of pace to the hard, dark stuff I've been reading lately! LOL If you want a sweet romance with a dash of family drama and shenanigans, you will enjoy their story. Be sure to download the bonus chapter! It's just a little extra sprinkle of sugar on this already sweet romance.

Happy reading!

I really don’t know how I managed to finish this one. Basically just to find out what happened to the h’s family. The H was awful. The story was drug out way too much and the love part was too short to be believable. Just not good.
