I was gonna give this a 4 but honestly it was perfectly fun and lighthearted.

Aahz convinces Skeeve to take on the job of a royal magician and they end up in the middle of a war. Some character return from the first book while we are introduced to a a few new one that I wish were used even more through the novel.
Skeeve steps up and displays his own cleverness apart from Aahz. There were some interesting humorous battles but the resolution was a bit of a letdown.
Overall this book was great, just not as good as the one that came before it.

Asprin Robert L. Myth Conceptions. 1981. Myth Adventures No. 2. Ace 2005.
If you like Another Fine Myth, you will find the same pleasures in Myth Conceptions. Of special note is the character of Ajax, the old archer, who always hits what he aims at between naps. I cannot help but believe Terry Pratchett had him in mind when he created Cohen the Barbarian. Asprin is a writer who deserves to be more recognized for his influence on other writers. If you have never read his work, you owe to yourself to pick one up.

Took a little to pick up (which is saying something, since these books are exceedingly short) but once the team starts to expand, this was quite the enjoyable little read.

I'd also read this one as a kid, but I didn't remember how anticlimactic it was. Seems to be a staple of this series, at least so far. I can't say I mind it, though, I've read enough books that end in a giant show-down. This series has its own particular vibe, and I have to say that I'm digging it.

I have always enjoyed fantasy novels and I have a fond place in my heart for campy pun filled fantasy and Robert Asprin definitely writes books that fit the bill. His books remain good although they do not quite stand up to the test of time.
