Full disclosure, I did go into this not very excited about a Mako feature...but wow. I really like what they've been doing with the comics -- combining a bit of worldbuilding with character dev (the backstory reveal !!) and some light real-life commentary. It's good. And the nonspeaking appearance of my besties...let's just say I cheered, lol'ed, and felt a minor twinge of embarrassment that I was initially a hater because the comic wasn't all about them again. Apologies to Mako, hugs for everyone's favorite himbo Bolin, and popped bottles for all.

Mako's always been the least interesting main character of both Avatar shows and this got to be one of my fave novels, the magic haha
A fun addition to the Avatar world. It is definitely a quick read and has a fast conclusion that might leave older fans wishing for a bit more fleshing out of the story and characters. I personally would have loved a more in depth story about Mako and Bolin's mother and their family's' history.
It's very watered down for young readers but still enjoyable.
I think it's a mistake not to have Pabu on every panel of every comic book but that's a personal opinion based on how adorable and funny he is.
