This is an unsettling and addictive read. After the tragic loss of her youngest daughter, Molly desperately tries to prove her love and devotion to the remaining members of her family but they continually push her away in the midst of their grief and self-blame. On the anniversary of her daughter’s death, Molly mysteriously disappears in the rural town of Hastings during a major storm. Her oldest daughter, Nicole, senses that something is off about the disappearance and drives to Hastings to get her own answers. The story is told from the perspectives of both Molly and Nicole, which allows the reader to begin uncovering answers before the characters. Even though I figured out a lot of the plot points before the climax, I was totally unprepared for the final twist. It requires some suspension of disbelief and drags at certain points but overall it was an enjoyable read that captures the complexity of human emotion.

Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the opportunity to read this book before the publication date!

Unpopular opinion: this book just didn't do it for me. I found it to be interesting enough to be good but the abundance of improbable situations and characters had me rolling my eyes a few times. Desperate to be edgy and suspenseful, this was so full of odd situations, behaviors, motives, and duologue that it went well beyond being unrealistic. It kept my interest merely out of curiosity.

I really enjoyed this book! It was a fun way to tell the story and the twist actually surprised me.

The book definitely started off the year with a bang. I was hooked from the first chapter and found myself verbally gasping and crying out with every twist and turn in the plot. It was an ending that I didn’t see coming. I am so interested in other books by this author and can’t wait to look into them.

I really enjoyed this one. The ending was unexpected. I thought I had it figured out for the most part but I definitely did not.
