I absolutely adore the Thursday Murder Club. This time around Elizabeth, Joyce, Ron, and Ibrahim are looking into the ten-year-old unsolved murder of Bethany Waites, a journalist/co-host of a television news show. Along with this mystery, Elizabeth has an “encounter” with a man they are calling “The Viking”, who is trying to force Elizabeth to kill someone for him or he will kill Joyce.

Each of our characters gets a chance to shine. Elizabeth gets to see spend time with an ex-KGB acquaintance. Joyce gets to flirt with a handsome TV personality. Ron makes a couple of new friends, and Ibrahim gets to do some brainstorming and use his therapy skills. Donna, Chris, and Bogdan are back too. Bogdan is still my favorite character and I love how his relationship with Donna is progressing.

The mystery was maybe a little convoluted, but I enjoyed it. Yes, it’s unlikely that all these characters would form friendships and work together to bring down (another) bad guy, but it’s fun. We have missing money, shallow graves, a couple murders, and an adorable dog – what more could I ask for?

I listened to the audio and the narrator did a fabulous job. The characters’ personalities and emotions were conveyed well and the pace was good. It also has a bonus section at the end in which Steph McGovern interviews Richard Osman about the series.

He really is the perfect author for this time in my life. The books are fun and I don’t see the denouement round about the middle of the book.

Another romp overflowing with murder, danger, tea, and scones. And an intrepid band of shrewd elders solving cold cases. Hilarious, insightful, poignant, and SO. MUCH. FUN.

Thank you Mr. Osman, for your wildly clever stories, beautifully rendered characters, and skillful writing.

Okay this felt more like a 4 / 5 ✨ read, but I'm going to give it a 5 because I truly love this series lol.

This book The Thursday Murder Club felt a little more divided. It seems everyone wanted to have their own little secrets on what they discovered whilst determining who killed Bethany Waites. Soooo many times I felt like why don't they all get together and talk about what they find out and they could solve this sooooo much faster.

I didn't really understand how Ibrahim and Connie was really relevant to any of this ? I don't think the author really cleared that situation up... but it sounds like it might come up later in the series?? I'm not really sure !

It seems Joyce and Elizabeth had some tension in this book, and I'm sad because they are supposed to be besties !!

I dooooo love Joyce, Ibrahim, Elizabeth, and Ron. I hope in the next book we get to see them all close and happy again. I feel like Ron was barely in this book lol.

Can't wait to read #4!!

The nosey seniors are back, this time investigating the disappearance and presumed murder of a local TV staffer investigating a VAT tax financial scam, while Osman leans into his Slow Horses-style background on Elizabeth Best to introduce a former KGB money launderer whose new-school bitcoin pushing rival is threatened by his traditional advice to international clients. Meanwhile, Joyce adopted a dog, Ron has a girlfriend who is taking him to spas, and Polish handyman Bogdan, happily dating Donna the police lady, is always available to consult on local crime, chauffer them places and dig an endless series of holes which might or might not conceal bodies, guns and cash.

This was really good, I didn't like book 2 as much as I loved book 1, but this was a return to greatness.
