While I ultimately think Finale was a satisfying end to the Hush, Hush series, which allowed Nora to finally prove to be a strong character, who isn't always relying on Patch to get her out of problems, I did have some issues with this book. Mainly, there are moments that are so ridiculous and unbelievable, such as Nora's description of the muse tone in Dante's body as being greater than that in her entire body, that stood out for me in unflattering ways. Personally, I felt the need to read this book since I'd already invested a lot of time in the series overall, but if you haven't picked it up yet and are uncomfy with the bad boy fascination that some characters, like both Nora and Vee seem to have for most if not all of the series, then I don't recommend you pick them up, unless you just want to see what made this series, and Patch's rugged good looks, so popular.

i think the best thing about this whole thing was it managed to keep me reading with at least one detail. I feel like ive only been reading this whole thing through its annoying slap dash relationship and its bad decision making main character, to find out the over all story and outcome. Its amazing how something can be super annoying to read and yet compel me to keep going.

I loved it, the rush of war between the fallen angels and the nefilim was nerve racking. I suspect both Detective Basso and Vee since the beginning of the series, they were just to on point on things and just too 'chill' with somethings.
I knew both Nora and Patch were going to get their own happy ending, and when he felt her touch a downfall of tears came forward. But Scott. Oh my god Scott… he was one of the characters I most genuinely liked and related to. His death is going to be something I will never get over.

I’d been wrong before – shamefully wrong. I’d avoided fighting for the Nephilim out of fear of the archangels. Even more reprehensible, I’d used war as an excuse to get more devilcraft. All this time I’d been more concerned with myself than the people I’d been charged with leading. That ended now. Hank had trusted me with this role, but I wasn’t doing it for him. I was doing it because it was the moral thing to do.

Becca Fitzpatrick excels at creating an adrenaline pumping, heart racing story. Each of her four books is a roller coaster ride of action and drama and I’ve raced through each one to get to those last couple of pages where Patch and Nora finally get some quiet time. While I enjoyed reading it, and once again raced through, I did feel there were a few gaping holes in Finale.

I mentioned it during the last book and the same happened again: I started this novel not really remembering anything about the previous book. The story opens with a scene including Scott and Dante and I had absolutely no idea who Scott and Dante were, though the name Scott was familiar. Through reading the book, I managed to pick up some of the pieces as Fitzpatrick recaps important bits, but overall I really couldn’t give you a series recap with any kind of success. Partly, I think this is due to how fast I usually read these books, which means things don’t have the chance to sink in. I also feel though that the fallen angel/Nephilim lore has never really been explained to my satisfaction.

Going in to a series about vampires, I’ve got preconceived notions of the general idea, and then the author will elaborate and include their own take or twist on the legends. I had no prior knowledge to the concept of fallen angels and I’d never heard the word Nephelim before. When going with a fairly unknown concept, readers need to be given a background and established rules of these two races and I don’t feel like that was ever given to me. This meant it took me a hundred pages or so to really get into the story, by which point I just had to forget that I didn’t know what was going on.

As I said before, Finale was once again full of adrenaline and high blood pressure inducing drama and tension. However I couldn’t help but feel that for most part, nothing actually happened in this book. I can tell you that Nora went jogging a lot, and failed to push over a tree. I can tell you that Nora and Patch snog a lot, and once again feel it necessary to fake a break up and pretend to date other people (though that was a storyline that was dropped before it even began). Nora continues to hate Marcie, who continues to show up for unknown reasons, and Nora once again goes into hysterics at the first sight of Dabria. There’s plenty of “Can I throw this guy at Nora and create yet another point on this love polydodecahedron” and Nora and Patch create tension by failing to tell the other what they’re planning and there’s plenty of double crossing the double crossers so that no one knows which way is up. However, all these little things are just a smokescreen. Not one of them progressed the story in anyway and it wasn’t until right at the end of the novel that things started to happen.

I found Nora and Vee a lot more likeable than I usually do, though I suspect that’s due to Vee being absent for half the novel and Nora failing to make any stupid decisions mostly by not making any decisions at all. Nora has been thrust in charge of The Black Hand by her father, and while she is technically in charge, she doesn’t make one decision, attend meetings, or even get to know the people who work for her. Considering her life, her mother’s life and Scott’s life depend on her resolving this age old conflict between fallen angels and Nephilim, one would have expected her to actually do something. For example, she’s sworn to prevent a war between the two sides; this would be the time to brainstorm some alternative solutions to everyone’s problems, or to speak to the army she’s in charge of and say “Guys, I know Chevshan is right around the corner, but let’s dial back the all-out aggression.”

Instead, Nora’s quite content to let Dante and Scott handle the Black Hand, freeing up more of her time for snogging with Patch who works on his own plans while she attends school. I wasn’t that annoyed by Nora’s lack of involvement in her own future, mostly because her ideas usually involve throwing herself into the lions den and being surprised when the lions start to eat her. Mostly I think it’s just disappointing that the Black Hand storyline, which has been building for three novels, was never even properly utilised when it would have actually been worth the three hundred pages between the beginning and the “things are actually happening now” part of the book.

I think Vee should probably rethink the job position as “Best Friend of Nora”, because not only does Nora not seem like needs Vee as a best friend, but Vee seems to always be the one who’s screwed over. Vee has yet to have a love interest who hasn’t been trying to either kill, or dry trying to save, Nora and it hardly seems like a fair exchange. Even though she’s the main focus of the epilogue, I still don’t have much hope for her prospects.

The epilogue itself was a bit of a disappointment; it didn’t actually add anything or really round off the story in any way and there are still plenty of unanswered questions from the series. While, temporarily, they have stopped the fallen angels from forcing nephilim to swear fealty, there is nothing to stop it from happening again in the future. There is also nothing to stop Nora from being hunted and forced to swear fealty, and possibly more importantly, nothing to stop her continuing the human trait of ageing without swearing fealty. So potentially, Nora will be 78 and still taking 18 year old Patch out on dates and being featured on an episode of Dateline. Also, why were fallen angels that were not planning to enslave the nephilim also punished, what will happen to them in the future?

On a side note, it was pretty annoying that after four books of wading through innuendo and delightfully amusing suggestive comments, when Patch finally can feel Nora’s touch, we aren’t even gifted with a “fade to black” or a cut straight to the snuggles afterwards. Nora even rambles for most of the book about deciding whether to take the next step and still, all we get is Patch figuring out he can feel her touch, then off we go straight to the epilogue.

Fin.

It's very engaging due to the action scenes. And it really touches the heart because of Patch and Nora's invincible love. The writing was standard. The whole outcome was satisfactory. The copy I got wasn't adequate but it did not hinder me (although, it did a little bit) from appreciating this novel.
I loved the ending the most. I laughed.

I guess by gaining feeling in his body, he could finally feel down there as well. Glad to know Patch could finally muster a boner. For Nora's sake. Three cheers to the both of 'em!
