This book was so sweet and heartfelt from start to finish. I couldn’t put it down. When I wasn’t reading it I was thinking about reading it. Well written and exciting, a total joy to read.

For some reason, I always hit it off with Albert's romances that involve kids. The performer aspect in this one felt a little dicey, but it was handled well enough for me. And as always, I appreciated the communication between the couple. This didn't feel like there was really a third act breakup at all, which I really appreciate.

Graphic: Abandonment and Mental illness
Moderate: Abandonment and Mental illness
Minor: Biphobia
While neither of the leads have backgrounds/childhoods i would classify as "abusive," they both have minor trauma regarding a lack of stability growing up, and one of them grew up in the foster system. The mental illness is briefly implied to be post-partum depression, but later implied to be a more sustained underlying issue.jazzlioness's review against another edition

The characters deal with child abandonment and foster care. It isn’t presented graphically or in traumatic detail but it did shape the characters so it may be triggering.

i feel so bad for this rating, but i really did not like the writing, and it seems that the story and the characters weren't really fully developped

Up In Smoke is the third book I've read in Annabeth Albert's Hotshots series, and what I really like about this series is how different each book is; and this one is probably the most different of them all. But that certainly didn't make it any less readable. Although it was a lot more low angst. And for me, the characters of Brandt and Shane weren't always the most personable, but they were likable, and I liked how after a rocky start they really came together to care for their little diva Jewel. Furthermore, their romance was cute and in the end rather

I'll admit that I went into this one unsure of how well I'd like it. The blurb touched on one trope I'm not crazy about. However, I've liked every other book in this series, and I've enjoyed a few other books by Annabeth Albert, so I dove in and hoped for the best. I should've known it would all be okay. Albert has a way with characters and creating that emotional connection that works very well, and this one was no different. Shane and Brandt are part frustrating, part adorable, and once they get out of their own way, they just fit. Oh, and of course, there's a sweet baby in the mix to keep them on their toes. This is the fourth book in the series, and like the rest, it's well written, engaging, and full of feels.
